THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

Despite incomplete preparations, the show must go on! Soon after, chaos reigns with disappearing props, missing actors, collapsing sets, and forgotten lines. Once on This Island: The Musical
“Once on This Island” is a poignant one-act stage musical, featuring a compelling narrative crafted by Lynn Ahrens and set to the evocative music of Stephen Flaherty. Inspired by Rosa Guy’s 1985 novel, “My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl,” this Caribbean-infused adaptation reimagines Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, “The Little Mermaid.” Set against the backdrop of the French Antilles, the story follows a young peasant girl who embarks on a journey of love and sacrifice, striking a bargain with the gods to save the life of a wealthy boy she adores.

Clybourne Park
Bruce Norris’ 2010 play Clybourne Park envisions the events that transpired before, during, and after Lorraine Hansberry’s 1959 masterpiece A Raisin in the Sun. Taking place in the same house Lena Younger purchased in Hansberry’s play, Clybourne Park delves into themes of race, class, and gender, much like its predecessor. The play critically examines how discussions surrounding these topics have evolved—or stagnated—over the span of fifty years, skillfully weaving humor into its exploration.
